The American dream is to strike it rich as a self made millionaire. While in theory this is a fantastic idea, the truth is that there are few industries left where people can start from scratch and make themselves a millionaire through nothing but their own perseverance and skills. I’ll let you in on a secret, I have a bachelor’s degree, and although I do not down play the importance of education for the vast majority of people (especially my children, who already think they know everything), I did not need that degree. I could just as easily started doing what I do now with nothing more than a GED. The wholesale T-Shirt industry is truly a way where a hardworking, motivated, and personable individual can make hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.
How? I started out selling T-Shirts as a part time job to supplement what can only be considered a dismal income. I was actually turned on to the idea from a good friend of mine who makes as much as I do now. All it took to start from scratch was a small amount of money; remember at this point I was living from paycheck to paycheck. I used this money to buy some business cards and register the name of my company. I then sat down and started calling local businesses in the phonebook. A few of these companies went on to be my first customers and many of them continue to do business with me to this day.
With a base of customers, I needed suppliers. I needed suppliers, textile manufactures. This wasn’t hard. They’re in business to sell you their clothing, and they make high quality products. From there it was a matter of getting a contract screen printer to do the printing for me.
That is the long and short of how my business began. I bought t-shirts and paid a contract printer to do the screen printing. I then sold this product to my costumers. I came to think of myself as adding value to the t-shirts and bringing buyers and sellers together; all the while I was making more than I would have thought possible years earlier. I needed very little cash because I didn’t buy anything until my customers had committed to buying the custom t-shirts. If they wanted to pay with credit card it worked even better because I knew I already had the money. There was never very much risk and the potential for reward was fantastic.
Eventually my company was making enough money and taking enough time that I left my previous job as a trader to do it full time. I hired a secretary as soon as I could financially justify it and this freed up my time to seek and meet with customers. My company allowed me to make enough to grow the business and still never worry about my financial situation. The most beautiful thing about doing it the way I did in terms of growth is that I never felt like I was risking anything I couldn’t afford to lose.
About fifteen years after I started I got to a point where I was making enough money to try another expansion. I decided I would move into the screen printing myself. I currently own my own screen printing equipment and have a full time staff to do the contract printing for others that I used to have done for my own customers. I currently am in the process of setting up other companies that do what I started to do. I sell these companies to other ambition individuals and work as their screen printer. They go and get the customers for themselves, and I offer advice and the contract screen printing. We set up the new companies with their own website that offers pricing and quotes built in to it. We do the screen printing at special prices because of the special nature of the relationship that we have with these companies. Our websites allow the companies to decide what price they want to sell the shirts. This relationship benefits everyone because they don’t need to go thru the hoops of finding the printer and setting up the company and website, and it generates business for our company too.
This is where I currently am in my own business. I have attempted to show you the evolution of my business. I have made more than enough money to live comfortably, help put my children thru college, and save for retirement. The best part is how much I enjoy my job. I have woken up every day for the past ten years and known that I am my own boss. My destiny is my own hand and I answer to no one. I firmly believe getting into this industry was one of the best choices I ever made. Think about that all of this the next time that you wake up dreading going to work or the next time your boss is any four letter word you’d like.

People respond to an unsolicited mailing or telephone call telling them they are being entered into a prize draw. They then receive a telephone call congratulating them on winning a big prize in a national lottery – but before they can claim their winnings, they must send money to pay for taxes and processing fees. The prize doesn’t exist.

Prize draw, sweepstakes and foreign lottery mailings: many typical scams take the form of prize draws, lotteries or government payouts. Most appear to be notification of a prize in an overseas draw or lottery in return for administration or registration fees.

The person at the top of the list gets their free gift only after a prescribed number – sometimes as high as 100 – of new members join up. In reality, the majority of those on the list will never receive the expensive item they expect.

Credit scams: another advance fee fraud, originating in Canada. Advertisements have appeared in local newspapers offering fast loans regardless of credit history. Consumers who respond are told their loans have been agreed but before the money can be released they must pay a fee to cover insurance. Once the advance fee is paid, the consumer never hears from the company again and the loan never appears.

Property investment schemes: would-be investors attend a free presentation and are persuaded to hand over thousands of pounds to sign up to a course promising to teach them how to make money dealing in property. Schemes may involve the opportunity to buy properties which have yet to be built at a discount. A variation is a buy-to-let scheme where companies offer to source, renovate and manage properties, claiming good returns from rental income. In practice, the properties are near-derelict and the tenants non-existent.

2. EBay scams may involve people trying to buy goods from you with money order,where they pay you with fraudulent bill. You sent the goods,thinking your bank will clear this up,but it would not…. Always wait until the money are cleared by your bank,before sending stuff. Sometimes they use their own shipping company.

3. Ebay scam which is also popular involves stealing someone elsese account(by the means of #1,etc). Then they post an item for sale for a price you can’t resist. When you purchase it, they will ask you to pay,using money order or similar service. They can also set up a fake escrow service. Beware.

Pretty harsh, fair statement, but it is the truth. If you are working for someone else, no matter how great the work is, you will always be at the mercy of that boss. A lot of you are or have already found this out with the massive layoffs occurring. Look I hate money. I believe money is the root of all evil, but without money life is pretty tuff. I wish that everyone could live in harmony working their trait and then spend the rest of the day pursuing what they love. This is a fantasy world right. It doesn’t have to be, but this kind of life takes work itself.

Think about how much of your life has been about money. All through high school and college everyone but my parents told me to become a money maker. To study for a career that would make good money, not study for what I was interested in. How much of your life because of your job has been spent away from your family, dealing with greedy corrupt people, traveling, and moving to places you would never live?
Do you really plan on working a job like this for another 5, 10, 30 years?

The world needs workers to help the wealthy get wealthier.

This is also harsh, but another statement you need to hear. Working people make rich people richer. I have met a lot of people in my life. One thing I can tell you is that wealthy people are not geniuses or prodigies. There are a few out there, but most wealthy people put one pant’s leg on at a time, like my father says. They are people that are no smarter than you, they just have more knowledge in how to make money, they came from wealth, or they caught some lucky breaks.

It takes money to make money!

This is also the truth. This is what separates you from being wealthy. If you had money to toss away, you could try all kinds of online work at home programs. You could trade stocks all day until you found that penny stock that went to a dollar. It is extremely hard to spend money you don’t have on dreams and there lies the problem.

What cost $1 in 2000 would cost $1.24 in 2009. This is insane but you need to start thinking about this. When I was a little younger I always heard if I had a million dollars I could retire. That is still true in most parts of the world, but it would be really difficult in the U.S. Let’s get back to more inflation.

$1,000,000 in 1983 had the same buying power as $2,147,148.59 today 2009.

That is 26 years. Generally in order to even get close the 1 million mark in your 401k you would have to work and contribute for 25-30 years. Some of you might be thinking that the interest off your 401k would grow big time in these years. Well, how many stock market crashes have we seen in the last 26 years? How many people lost ½ to 2/3 of their 401K in this last year? How much will 1 million dollars depreciate in the next 10, 20, 30 years? All I am asking is for you to do the math, and be honest with yourself and family. Take a look and play around with the math yourself by searching inflation calculator.

When I do the math I see the majority of the U.S. and the World making under $100,000 a year. I see people never being able to really retire and live free like they dreamed. I see people not being able to put near the amount needed in their 401k to reach 1 million before and I see people not wanting to put any amount in their 401k now. I see people living paycheck to paycheck everyday. I see people not able to last 6 months without revenue coming in.

Am I saying all this to upset you? No! Most people live in a fantasy world. They don’t like to think about the future and if they do think about it, they lie to themselves about what they will be able to do in their golden years. You know what I am saying is true; you just don’t want to give up that lie. For most of you this lie is the only thing that gets you through each day.

Let’s look at some facts. The internet is growing, and will continue to have huge growth for the next 30 years and more. This is the opportunity of a life time. I always heard stories of how my great grandfather was able to work for a guy and in return the guy paid him in land. How my grandfather could go into the local bank and ask for a huge loan to buy a piece of land, cattle, or for a business venture. In those days you could take risk with your bank right behind you funding your every step. Today you have to have collateral, impossible credit score, business plan, operational business showing profit 5 years, your left arm cut off, and the deed to everything you own.

Look 90% of the millionaires in the world are small business owners. With it impossible to get a loan for a business, the internet is the place to be. This is a frontier that cost very little money to get into and is very forgiving. Example: you do manage to come up with 20% down for a Small Business Loan and you start your business. For most of us, this is everything and if it fails, that’s it. You tried and you failed. Research how many business fail each year. Now think about the internet. Even if you spend $2500 on your working at home business and it fails, you can recover and trust me you will have
failures. You will still be able to try again, because this possible failure won’t ruin you. Most successful people failed many, many times before making it big.

Now I am not saying don’t save money, but think about the odds. I will take the odds of succeeding with a work from home business after trying for 26 years any day before putting in a 401k for 26 years. If you only tried 1 work from home business a year that is 26 chances of being financially independent and living the life you always dreamed of versus hoping you don’t get laid off more than 3 times, hoping you 401k gains always, and hoping inflation stops.

Work at home is broken down into many things like home business, websites, actually doing a work at home or freelance jobs and so on. I never really focus on getting paid at home per hour or per job when it comes to working from home because it is the same as having a dead end job. If you’re going to do this, why not go the whole way and start a home business where you are in charge and you control what you make.

This is not a get rich quick scheme. For those of you out there looking for that knock out punch or over night program, you are living in a dream. It will take work to work at home and be successful, but this is a realistic goal. If I came to you and told you there was gold in that mountain, but you would have to dig 10 or 100 feet for it, would you? The internet is that gold, but you have to work for it. Along the road you will learn how to mine, better ways to dig, easier ways to dig, and when you finally get to that gold you will have knowledge and money that will change you life.
