From the very first model, the Apple iPhone has represented the pinnacle of mobile communications technology. True, other mobiles have superior cameras, more integrated business software, etc., but no tool has come near to achieving the sheer amount of acclaim attributed to the iPhone. The chances are you would have already heard some form of media or advertising associated to the iPhone, such is its wide-ranging influence over today’s market. The product’s success, however, is not merely down to Apple’s trademark slick advertising or squeaky-clean image, but more to the striking combination of speed, usability and variety that each touchscreen model exudes.
Apple’s Multi-Touch system is one that combines the wow factor that generally accompanies a touchscreen with stunning usability; objects and buttons on the screen respond in amazingly quick fashion and the quirky feature of pages “bouncing” off the device’s “walls” is one that surely will resonate with the young generation, or simply those young at heart. The touchscreen is head and shoulders above any device on the marketplace in terms of response times and accuracy, but this superior efficiency is augmented by another pivotal feature; the accelerometer.
The sheer responsiveness of the iPhone’s accelerometer allows for users to connect in applications which require precise readings of movement; games like Cube Runner or the Cover Flow feature of the iPod section rarely read movement wrongly, unlike other, less intuitive mobiles.
Another major selling point of the iPhone is the increasing number of downloadable applications available from the iTunes App Store; with most being priced attractively and some being free, there is very little grounds not to increase the iPhone’s capability for fun/productivity at the expense of a few bucks. Whilst some applications do incur a cost, the amount of free stuff offered will keep you endlessly busy. Hours of boredom on tedious train trips can be a thing of the past with games such as Flight Control, SGN Golf and Paper Toss; so too irritating waits for a computer to fire off a quick business e-mail or an Excel spreadsheet, as office suites such as QuickOffice and Documents 2 Go aptly provide for these needs.
Of course, the iPhone’s latest incarnation prides itself on speed, and the 3GS does not disappoint; it loads quickly for a device that holds up to 32GB of media. A major quality that complements the iPhone’s efficient RAM usage (and consequently the speed) is the fact that it does not multi-task (except when playing music). Applications have to be exited before another can be started; this prevents a amount of crashing, unlike other high-end smartphones like the R.I.M. Blackberry or the HTC Touch.
The media player is on par with the quality that Apple is known for, and as such it is pretty impressive; for music, bass is rich, the trebles are high without being too piercing and the middles are satisfactorily accentuated. However, the killer punch has got to be the video playback; no device on the market – except the much-vaunted Samsung HD Icon, perhaps – can match the iPhone for video playback, as the quality is truly amazing. Viewing angles are plentiful as well, so even if the device is turned forwards/backwards, the video will look as beautiful.
Granted, the high price may warrant cautiousness before forking out; however, if you are looking for a do-it-all device that actually manages to accomplish all the tasks it sets out to, look no further than the magnum opus of Apple Inc. The phone aspects itself seems more of an add-on than an actual feature, but it does not disappoint either. Add to this the 3 megapixel camera with video recording, and you have the quintessential mobile powerhouse; for a device that will last the test of constant technological improvements, get the iPhone. 4 million+ buyers can’t be wrong.

The processor chip is labeled as just a bit recent model amount but it and the GPU are likely the similar speed since the 3GS. The old Contact with the similar CPU and GPU since the 3G was quicker. Besides having the clock pace turned up greater the Contact has much less software to run since it is not a telephone. It ought to defeat any iPhone to this day in overall performance.
